I manage a small management company. Some of the owners of the flats have purchased the freehold. My problem is that I have one resident who requires the permission of the landlord to have a water meter fitted (the flat is owner occupied). I told the owner to go to the freeholder but the freeholders solicitor has written back to them saying they are the freeholders not the Landlord and the management company should deal with this Is there a site on the web that states the freeholders are the landlords. This solicitor is a family solictor and therefore I fear not to knowledgeable on the subject - I would like to show him evidence that freeholder and landlord of the building are same.

Are you a flat owner as well?

Why does the owner occupier need permission from the landlord? I would have thought that the flat owners who have the freehold are the landlords?

Yes I am also a flat owner who rents out my flat and manages all of the flats. I was 99.99% certain the freeholder is the landlord in this case as the flat is owner occupied. The solicitor for the freeholders has stated it is the management company decision which I am sure is incorrect - but everyone believes what solicitors states( except me!)
The owner of the flat lives there, they also own their share of the freehold? In that case just knock on his door and ask him.

The freeholder is the landlord.

Can I assume that the freeholders set up a management company to look after the block and you are the chair of the management committee?
