went for a coffee with mr mally yesterday we always go to a little cafe with 4 outside tables where the smokers can sit in peace and watch the world go by but at one of the tables was a lady with her mother and the lady was breast feeding a tiny baby (,i have no objection to that)but sitting right in the centre when she could have gone inside made me a tad annoyed so we had to go somewhere else ,moan over x

I no longer smoke but I would have just sat on the patio too and smoked back in the days when I did puff away...I am assuming it was a similarly lovely day there as here and she wanted the sun on her face. Can't seee why you had to go somewhere else.

we didn't want to smoke near a baby x
Strange the things that bother some, but not others.
But would have thought that a smoking area was a place to avoid taking your child/baby.
The problem is you have to avoid creating the situation where sitting outside enjoying a cup of coffee on a nice sunny day is a situation restricted to smokers only. If I were a smoker I would adopt Mallj's attitude on the grounds that anyone who didn't want to be in a smokey atmosphere could go to the special place reserved for them.
A table outside a cafe is not a designated smoking area.
Nice that you were considerate and didn’t smoke near the infant. But diners who do not smoke are entitled to sit in the sunshine.
Ah, but social pariahs are to be inconvenienced by the virtuous at every chance.

Having been banished to the streets, smokers will continue to have their available space colonised by those less polluting but far more outspoken and shrill.
Sincer when were seats in the sunshine only the perquisite of smokers?
We only smoke outside cafes if there is an ashtray on the table.
Why should she go inside? "Right in the center"...did that affect social distancing?
Some eating establishments limit seating to outside. I think the theory is that *if* someone had covid, then it would not be contained on the inside, so less chance of exposure*. Maybe that was her reason to sit outside. I know of folks who won't sit indoors.
* Whether that's true or not, I don't know.
Hmmm...didn't realise this was about not being able to smoke.
It is about smoking.

sparklyKid didn't get what you meant by avatar image x
pasta, its known (and seems to have been confirmed in places like Leicester) that covid is more easily transmitted where there is less airflow. So yes, sitting outdoors is safer than sitting indoors.
mally, sparkly has copy pasted part of their reply. The avatar image that shows on the original reply is replaced by the words "avatar image" when you copy paste. Often the copy paster will remove that before posting but sometimes not
Perhaps the woman who was breast feeding is a smoker herself? My daughter who is breast feeding at the moment would never have her baby anywhere near someone who is smoking because she is a non smoker, but perhaps it wouldn't bother someone who is a smoker, or perhaps her mother is a smoker and the daughter and baby are used to smoke.
Mally, Sparkly just copy and pasted from your post, he just copied your avitar details as.well (he always does!)

'Avatar Image' means sparkly can't do a proper link.

hate that.
