I have arranged to have my bathroom converted to a shower room. It is all arranged fixtures and fittings chosen just waiting for a starting date. If I decided to move to a park home would I be able to cancel the arrangements or would it be better to have it done to increase the value of my bungalow when it is sold. I am not looking forward to the upheaval!!

whether it will increase your home value depends on what you are having done TBH I don’t think it would increase the value beyond what you pay for it unless your existing bathroom is totally trashed.....also as OG says, you may not have a choice....

Hello Park.

I guess it depends on the contract you have. I'd expect there might be a cancellation fee. I'd give a quick look at the expected figures were I you.

Good luck with your move.

the usual thinking is that homes without a bath sell less easily than homes that have one. Families in particular like to put their children in a bath rather than a shower.

I would agree , get a shower by all means very good idea but keep the bath as well.
Many people like a bath rather than a shower especially, as said, if they have kids, or as we do often have grandkids over to stay, a shower is not suitable for young children.
Hello Janet. I have to agree with the others. Except maybe for small flats, people do expect a bath, even with a shower "over" the bath.

If you really are unsure, then I would cancel the bathroom works as soon as possible to be fair to the contractor.

This happens all the time. Don't feel intimidated. I hope the builder does not give you a hard time over cancellation. Any true professional knows very well that not all quoted-for jobs do actual come off. It's just a part of the business.

Hi Mr Builder and everyone, The whole reason I was having the bath removed was because I couldn't physically get in it to have a shower and my bathroom is too small for both.I think it is unlikely that a family will buy my bungalow and all the ones round here sell very quickly, because they are hard to come by these days.My plumber has been looking after me since my husband died 10 years ago but arrangement were made about a month ago and i am just waiting for him to give me start date. I will give him a ring on Monday morning and tell him I want to postpone rather than cancel because I haven't made up my mind about the Park Home yet. I do understand they are a financial nightmare but they are an old persons dream to live in and my family are all quite happy for me to buy one, so it is up to me now to decide whether to take the plunge. Wish me luck, and thanks for all the advice'
fair enough, bluebird; if you can't get into a bath and people round your way don't want bath tubs anyway, go ahead and change. I'm not sure it'll increase the value of the property, though.
