So many ways to do this, Beth. Here are possibly the simplest methods...

Interior face of external walls:

Fix battens (timber) to the wall, fix foam (board) type insulation between battens, then plasterboard and conventional skim plaster.

There are other things to consider, but that's the short version.

Exterior face of exterior walls:
Much the same - except - instead of plasterboard, fix galvanised expanded metal lath, then render and paint.

I think you can see that the interior solution can be a simple diy job. Only one room at a time is disrupted.

The external solution involves scaffolding, having sufficient roof overhang (soffit), detail around windows etc etc.

It's not so much a question of special products, more a conventional approach that doesn't involve ......... "specialist" companies/ "surveyors"/ mystique/ fancy prices.

A specification and a decent local builder is all you need.

Have a think about those approaches first.
