Sorry....... are you looking to add a splash of colour or to totally change the whole colour scheme and add new carpet, curtains, etc.?

Hi, just want to paint really, maybe a few accessories. keep curtains carpets etc.

cheers
As I told someone else the other week, creams and cappuccino browns are quite in at the mo, and they work well together with a soft lemon or primrose yellow, which will give the room a touch of summertime. Also, the correct shade of red would work, such as a cherry red.

If the furniture is dark brown, then I would opt for a red shade, as opposed to a yellow one, as warm and cool colours don't really mix well.

so maybe cherry red up to about 4 ft, then the rest upwards some sort of warm golden colour.

or do you thing thats a bad idea? maybe do one wall in red and another in gold|?
No, not cherry red AND gold. One or the other. I recommend keeping two walls cream, and two walls in your chosen colour. Then you could start adding little touches here and there in, say, black and gold. A black vase with gold detail for example.
I disagree with NoMercy as creams and cappucine are, imo dull and dated.

I suggest that you make a feature of one wall, be bold, be daring, there are fantastically eyecatching wall coverings available at good prices. Check ebay.I would go with a dark brown background with colour, perhaps pistachio or raspberry flora design.
Creams and Cappuccinos are featuring in all the "Beautiful Homes" mags right now. They are, like I said, very in at the mo, especially when blended with colours like lemon, and other summery hues.
Something like this can be given a splash of colour...
