Chest Freezers.

Why can some chest freezers be put in an outbuilding and others have to be indoors ?. What's the difference please.

Not sure but probably the quality of insulation.
I didn't realise that some chest freezes are unsuitable for placing in unheated garages. Perhaps the following link is of help to explain why. :-

I would question whether freezers are compromised by low ambient temperatures unless their construction makes them vulnerable. European units tend to have an impermeable outer shell, usually of metal but occasionally with some plastic surfaces. Frost forming, if it ever does, on the outside will not affect the insulation as described in the linked article. On the other hand, units from North America, cabinet freezers in particular, often have a bitumen impregnated paper coated rear surface - these are vulnerable to moisture. Some Asian units may have the same sort of weakness.
