Toilet Seat Problem.

My soft-close toilet seat is rather wobbly on one side and I can't tighten the fixing bolt any further. The expanding rubber bolt/fixing revolves as I turn the metal bolt. This is a top-fixing toilet with no access from underneath.

How do I remove the rubber expanding bolt(s) so that I can replace it without damaging the toilet ?

Cheers.

You may have to undo the two screws that hold it at the base (mine are roughly half way along each side, near the bottom) then withdraw the pan as far as the flexible pipe will allow.

That'll give you access from below.

Thanks, Douglas. Will gird my loins for this one !

Base of my pan is screwed to floor, so will yours be if it was installed correctly.

Thanks Tony. Trouble is that the toilet is built and sealed into cabinets. Probably just do-able for a plumbing averse 80 plus year old but I'll have to do some mental preparation for this job !

Should be some screw able access panels to allow access.
