Looking to replace my Panasonic vacuum cleaner and wondered if anyone could recommend the best make for hoovering carpets, not an upright one.
Thanks in advance.

I have the Miele Cat and Dog and am really happy with it.
I don't think you can go wrong with a dyson.
We've got a Henry Hound, which is pretty good even with mud and pet hair.xx
Miele cat and dog, brilliant. Which No.1 for cat and dog hair. And even if you haven't got animals.
Dyson? Aaaaargh! Run a mile!
Sure the only one for "hoovering" anything is a hoover?
Only if you sing the jingle, Chuck. x
I just bought a HEPA filtered bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner by VAX: small but sucks like a Thai hooker on acid: the stuff it pulled out of our 'clean' carpets was quite disgusting.
I know you said you didn't want an upright but I changed recently to a Vax turbo upright and I was amazed and disgusted at how much dirt it removed from my carpets - You can switch the motor driven brush off - it is the best vac I have ever owned

bex bissesll hoover - absolutely brilliant - upright only.
I have a Hetty and really like it. I changed it from a Dyson upright.

And it's pink and cute :-)
Uprights are rubbish at getting to the edges and around furniture.
I recommend Miele vacuum cleaner. So far no complains whatsoever, and I've had it for many years.
Don't get a Dyson! I have one (it's upright) and it does my bloody head in. It seems to get blocked really really easily.
That is the only good thing about it though, the parts can be taken off separately, so you can get to the blockage without having to take the whole thing apart.
The hose attachment is lethal. I broke my nose using the same model last year!
They brake easily as well. Try hoovering when it's spitting it's contents onto the carpet!
Miele ever time. I have had mine years and recommend it highly.
Miele Cat and Dog - far, far better than any Dyson
What's the budget?
Yep, mine does that Ummmm. I then resort to the dustpan and brush.
Honestly, I nearly threw the damn thing down the stairs the other day!
