I have owned a number of mechanical Flymos over the years and found that after a time the vibrations kept shaking the fuel tank loose or, indeed, broke the mounting which held the fuel tank onto the engine cover. Has anyone experience of using a more modern edition and would you recommend it for its structural and mechanical qualities? I am a great admirer of the work which the Flymo can do and its ease of handling. Thanks.

The vibration may be caused by an unbalanced blade, which happens if you occasionally discover un-cuttable objects. I believe, from memories of a previous life, that if you hold on a pencil or similar, spin it a balanced blade should come to rest in a horizontal position. If it rests at any other angle it suggests it's out of balance and causing the vibes. I think the Flymo is a very good machine but not necessarily for larger areas.
