I have had a disaster this year with the above as although they grew plenty of foliage they didn`t flower at all and I can`t figure out why. Any bright spark know why? On the reverse side of some of the leaves were lot`s of little postules like scale insect I think, but not ever had these I`m not sure. Are you there Hawk?

So... did you plant them this year? If so, be aware both varieties are biennial, meaning they only flower every other year. This is especailly true of seeds or cuttings planted after the last frost this last spring.

If the leaves weren't damaged I wouldn't give much notice to the galls you see on the under sides of the leaves... they're pretty hardy...

Thankyou bud. How`s things stateside?
There is a new variety out called Noverna which flowers in the first year. Unwins seeds are selling it.
Thanks for the greeting shylock73... things are well, vegetable garden is keeping us busy canning, roses are rampant as are Monarda, clematis are laying by, but fall is deffinitely in the air here in the Rocky Mountains... but a nice Autumn is in the offing if the wooly worms thick coats can be believed as a harbinger... hope all is well in your corner of the globe, to mix metaphors...
