This spring I bought a peach tree which remains alive but has done absolutely nothing since its immediate planting - no budding at all. An apricot tree bought and planted at the same time has done well and is looking quite healthy beside the sorry peach.

I had the same thing happen with a redcurrant bush last year. I think it has something to do with the way they are treated to maintain dormancy before they are sold. I just kept it well watered all last year and this year it has sprouted as normal...no flowers or fruit though.

That is encouraging, thanks.....not least for correctly guessing what the question was: The word "why" was on my mind but I failed to fully express it.
