Having never grown vegetables before, apart from runner beans, what is the best way to thin out a row of carrots. I cannot seem to do it without pulling them all out. Also is it necessary to thin out lettuce the same?
Thanks in anticipation

Any plant will do better if it's not crowded. Try thinning the carrots when they first appear and right after a good watering. Better yet, try this trick the next time you sow any small seeded vegetable. Obtain an eye-dropper from your medicine cabinet or buy one from your drug store... they're quite inexpensive. Put a goodly amount of the seeds into the dropper and... voila! They seed only when you squirt gently the rubber bulb. Lettuce will do better when the plants are about 4 to 6 inches apart as well.

Best of luck!
DONT do it if you pull carrots out when very young you will engourge carrot fly
when sowing your carrots
get a packet of spring onions, and raddish mix all three packets together and sow lightly
pull raddish when ready this will leave gaps for the carrots and spring onions to grow on ,spring onions will helpto carrot fly away it wont hurt to pull a few onions..
