I have bought three iris plants which are about 8 inches tall, after planting them my friend insists that I should have cut the leaves down by half, this seems a bit drastic to me as they are only young plants, is she right?

I'd say that your friends advice is sound, cut the flower stems back too.
Why do you have to cut them back?

Thanks Chipcopper, I don't know why Tilly, but since two folks say to do it I will, never grown them before so will be interesting to see what happens.
