Winter Flowering Heathers

Some of my older winter flowering heathers have not this year been up to their previous years abundance of flowers. They have become rather bushy and I would appreciate some advice on how best to revive them. Would they survive a severe pruning and would they improve with a feed. If a feed is needed, what should it be. All advice will be welcome, thanks.

March and early April is the perfect time to rejuvenate old plants by pruning back the previous seasons growth. You can do this with shears but follow the natural mounded shape of the plants and avoid flat tops. Trim just below the flower spikes and they should respond well to pruning if done regularly.
