Advice On Small Trees

I have cleared a llandia hedge out that was dying next which was between a fence and my driveway. There is probably only about 6 inches gap which I intend to put some plants in but I would like to put a couple of small trees in aswell. A parked car would be next to it so thickness of trunk is important.

Can anyone suggest a small tree whose trunk will stay quite thin and grow up over a 3 foot fence? Do cherry trees for example grow out wide?

An alternative would be a rose tree for example.

Thanks
Simon
