I had beautiful cornflowers in my garden but the wind blew them all down. I had to cut most of them back today and it truly broke my heart. they are such lovely flowers with a colour not seen in any other flower. Has anyone else lost theirs?

I hjaven't seen cornflowers for years - I am concerned myself for my beautiful rambling rose, in case the wind and rain takes off the blossom this year, before we've had a chance to enjoy its glorious scent in the sunshine.
We call them Bachelor Buttons here in the U.S. They're nice, but get unruly in that thy seed themselves every year. Amazing where they come up. Our varieties include blue and white. They come on about the first of June and flowers are seeded out by the first of July... sometimes a little later if we're dedicated to pinching spent blossoms.

You do know they are edible, don't you? Slightly spicy, we use them occasionally in salads...
Clanad I've been trying to get rid of mine for about 2 years now.............but they always keep coming back.
when you cut them back at this time tilly, they will have a second bloom later on in the summer.mine had looked really raggedy and i thought they were over,so i cut them back.couple of months later,up they popped again;-)
Curious. The wild ones in the field here are pretty much unaffected by the weather; never noticed any blown down or beaten down by rain; but they flower a bit later than this, just the once.
mine are in a garden though fred,no general field protection.
