Can an oil filled radiator be put onto a normal domestic timer. Its on the lowest setting of 500w and in the greenhouse. I will be away for some of the weekend so I want it to come on at night.

I have 2 timers available to me here - A segment one and one which uses pins in the relevant holes.

Can I use either of these?

Thanks, Chris

is the rad the kind that plugs into the mains? is the timer the kind that plugs into the mains then you plug the item into the timer? if so yes but make sure that its on a RCD just in case. I have my torts heat set up like that, rcd plug in the main socket, timer into the rcd, heater into the timer. BUT if the rad has a thermostat on it then maybe you don't need the timer too?

The radiator is a mains electric oil filled radiator - 3 heat settings and a rotary knob for fine adjustment.

The door needs to be left open slightly to prevent overheating during the day. The heater isn't required at all during daylight hours and I don't want to be heating up the outside anymore than I need to.

Cheers for your reply.

Perfectly acceptable, yes. Most are 20A 600w rating.
