Sonic v Laser

Sonic measuring or laser? Which is best? I just need to be able to measure room dimensions maybe down to 1" accuracy..... Laser seems pretty expensive.

My first 'sonic' was rubbish (that was some while ago, however).
Disto laser is wonderful.

Why will you be measuring rooms, if I may ask ?
