could i use an old central heating pump to pump out a pond

It would depend on many factors that probably would not all be satisfied. Although the idea is a good one, in practice you could find it difficult to set-up. The principle proble is that the pump is not designed to lift water, but to move water around a closed system.
Why not syphon the water out through a hose pipe?
Central heating pumps are not designed to take particle matter either....any gunge that goes through the pump witl block the impeller.

If it's an old one, might be worth a go providing you use it with a circuit breaker.
