Malt vinegar and newspaper ... apply diluted solution 50/50 with a damp cloth to the window ... then buff with newspaper ...
Minute drop of washing up liquid and a large dash of methalated spirit in warm water sloshed on with a sponge then removed with a rubber window blade. Then finished off with newspaper.Result gleaming windows.
I still use the old fashioned pink windowlene in a bottle. Wipe on,polish off,you can see if youv`e missed any.
I find the very best things are two of these new microfibre cloths. Dip the first one in some dilute Fairy liquid and wring out before before wiping across the surface of the window (but don't do it when the sun is shining directly on the glass). Then use a second dry microfibre cloth to dry the surface.

Alternatively one of those window blade wipers with a handle works well with Fairy Liquid.
VINEGAR in the hot rinsing water... using a newspaper... something in the ink which makes it buff up a treat. i swear by it and never bother to buy expensive window cleaner!
my mum uses fabric softner-no streaks!
I find it helps to scrunch up teh newspaper, not have it folded.
