potential entitlement of my partner to my house?

I bought my house 18 months ago and have been happily living alone in it and paying the the mortgage myself. I've now met someone and we're thinking of living in the house together.

I feel quite protective of my property as I've heard horror stories of couples splitting up and them both having a 50/50 share as one of the partners has been paying "rent" even though their name is not on the mortgage. Please can you advise my best plan whilst remembering that I don't think this guy would do that to me so I don't want to appear too cold and calculating.

how long could he live with me and pay half of everything before he would be entitled to half of everything?
