Mounting a flat screen Tv on a stud wall

I've just bought myself a new TV and am weighing up what to do with my old one.

It's a 32" flat screen HD TV and one idea I have is to mount it on my bedroom wall.

However, the wall I am proposing to mount it on seperates my bedroom from the stairs and is "hollow" when you tap it. Is that what is known as a stud wall?

If it is, would I still be able to mount the TV on it?

You can get special fixings for stud walls that will be more than adequate to hold a TV that size.
Yes you can mount it on that wall you will need to buy some hollow wall fittings somewhere like B&Q
Also, the studs (uprights) will be at 400mm centres most likely. With that size of TV, you're bound to cover at least one stud if you'd like a solid fixing. Otherwise special fixings as the others have mentioned......

All I need now is a bracket - I binned the one that came with my telly (4 yrs ago) as I never thought I'd need it!
