dodgy builder

The water from my the flat above me leaked in to mine causing hugh amount of damage, the insuirance company aske me for two quotations which I got for them, the work was all done by one of the builder that I slected and he was paid nearly £10K
Its only been 2 months – the walls are damp the light switch has not worked and the toilet is leeking. When iasked the builder to come and have a look he made ten thousands escuses why he can not – he finally turned up and said well its nothing that I’ve done you lot need to wipe down the ceiling every day. So I asked him if he wiped down he’s ceiling every day before going to work???? He said no.

Since yesterday he got bit pisssssssssssssssed off with me and said well find someone else, should I let insurance company know that the work has not been done to specifications or not

Yes, I agree with Alf.......... but, it does rather depend on what the specification actually was of course.
Apart from that, I have to say the builder's attitude is unforgivable. £10k is a lot of work for water damage. Any decent builder should expect to give a little thought to aftercare, especially with a job of that value. Even if it were a ten pound job, most customers are grateful for a little "hand-holding" in order to tie up any loose ends or problems. So many tend to think that a job is over the minute the cheque is handed over.

The insurance company should at least be kept informed, if only to protect you if more problems crop up later as a result of the work. You may even need to claim again!

To be practical, it's the worst time of year for anything to dry out. When the fabric of a building is water-logged, it can take ages. At a guess, I'd say the ceiling still has some drying to do. In the meantime it's presenting a cold, damp surface where condensation will easily develop. It could be as simple as that.
The light switch sounds like it's relevant. If it was damaged in the flood, it should be fixed.
Flooding wouldn't normally cause a WC to leak....... but, perhaps re-fitting it was part of the spec., in which case it should be done.

wc was removed by the builder but ever since he put it back it has not worked
when i asked him to come and have a look he said he will chargeme £35 an hour its not free i thuink i have been robbed
To cut a long story short ............... he's an @rse.
Do tell the insurance company as soon as possible, before anything else.

Did the insurance company pay the builder or did they give you the money so that you pay him. If the insurance company paid him directly it should be easier to get something done about it.

Create stink (a big one) with insurance company, claiming that at that sort of outlay, they should be certain work is completed satisfactorily.
as you live in a flat your insurance should be under a communial policy,for the whole block of flats , has your upstairs neighbour had their plumbing checked to insure that the original leak has been repaired ? Also the problem with the light switch is v dangerous and should not be ignored.Speak to the insurers and explain your problems .....you are not being difficult.

i just emailed the loss adjuster and explaind to him insurnace sent the cheque to the buillder in careoff me, i am so upset and dont know where to go, builder is being very rude and chage me extra for the tiles and looking at the quote he sent inurance he has not done the things he said he was going to do,
he has now told e to bugggggggeroff

If the insurance company paid him then just go back to them and tell them he has made a mess of things and that you are not happy with the quality of his work. Get them to come around and look at it. They may have more luck in getting him to right things than you will have judging by his attitude.

Well I have emailed the loss adjusters and now waiting to see whathappens what a horrible man I have known him for 12 years and he has done loads of building work for in but first time through insurance and during Xmas
What a mess he has made – sink is still leaking.
He sent me a nasty text message saying “ I charge per hour am not doing any freebys for you. Hmmmmmmmmm aftercare!!! Its only been few weeks and the insurance paid him almost 10K
