It would say that no government could pass any national law without the consent of the majority of the people.  That I'd like to see!

Actually, you would be well treated today only if you were the equivalent of an earl or baron or the heir of one.  The document was executed at the demand of the lords and contains 63 articles, most of them a list of rights that chiefly benefited the land-owning nobility and the church. It was only much later that the rights were extended to the citizens. Interestingly, the rights of women were not well guarded... no widow of a lord could remarry without consent of the barons, nor could any woman bring charges against anyone for a murder except her own husband.  Anyone owing money to a Jew at the time of debtors death, generally didn't have to repay the debt from the estate.. Check the contents here:
