I think it is supposed to be in Turkey on a mound known as Hisarlik. There are supposed to have been several cities built on the site.

He may have found the ruins of a city but it is still not proved that it was Troy. Although all the indications point that way.

It's touching that they are intending to build a concrete jungle of tourist hotels in what was perhaps (obviously not in ancient times!) a peaceful little village in Turkey.....
