I would think that this question is all a matter of opinion. Im gonna go out on a limb and say that one of them would be Man walks on the Moon. The next could be the Falling of the Berlin wall. Invention of birth control pills and epidurals was a very significant event for women. While cars and computer chips may be a more significant event for men. But im sure that the death of JFK and John Lennon were pretty significant events. But thats just my opinion.
good list. I would add 9-11 to that. Also the opening up of the internet.
Woodstock and the rise of egalitarian liberalism
Formation of the European Union. And while a previous poster has said man stepping on the moon, I would say that probably a more important aspect of the space race is the rise of satellite technology.
The birth of Rinkytink !
Princess Diana's death, who would have thought it would have that sort of an impact? Berlin wall would definitely be one. And 9/11. Does it have to be just 10? How about in the last 21 years? That's how long I've been alive and I'm sure that would be just as difficult! Obviously the above three would go into my list, then I wouldn't have a clue what has been significant!
Hard to agree with the death of Diana - it led to no global repercussions, no new laws, no changes in society and outside a hysterical media it would be a little pious to compare her death to that of JFK, which did have wide reaching consequences. Then again, I think that the release of Sgt. Peppers would be on my list so what do I know?
What about the discovery of DNA. Although I think that was 51 years ago. Am I allowed that?
IMHO, in no paricular order they are as follows: 1. Destruction of the Berlin Wall. 2. Man In Space/On The Moon. 3. Collapse of the Soviet Union. 4. Transplant Surgery(Major Organs). 5. Release Of Nelson Mandela(which brought about the end of apartheid.) 6. I.T./Internet. 7. 9/11. 8. Massive increase in Worldwide terrorism and terror groups. 9. Discovery of the(ever increasing it seems) hole in the Ozone layer. 10. Upsurge in countries gaining nuclear technology/weapons.
1. The fall of Communism 1989-91
2. The Cuban Missile crisis 1962
3. The Middle East oil crisis 1973
4. September 11th 2001
5. Independence of African countries, early 1960s
6. Cultural Revolution 1966-76
7. End of the Vietnam War 1975
8. Development of the European Union 1957-
10. Abolition of the number 9
How about? Womens right to vote. Abolition of slavery. The Amber Alert System. Invention of ATM/debit cards. Television. Microwave. Polio vaccine. Making AIDS a treatable ailment.
I would recon the stonewall riots would be up there some where, they have caused change in a lot of countries. Views and Laws
