I have been given this badge http://static.flickr.com/119/292354140_90391eb 39f_b.jpg as a memento of one of my ancestors. I was told that he was in the Welsh Bombadiers, but I am unable to find a reference. Can anyone tell me of them or point me in the direction where I might find out, please? It is a big brass badge, about 3.5" x 1.5".
This is amazing. I've been hunting around for identification for quite some time and up it pops here in 10 minutes !! Thank you very much. Following your lead I've now discovered that it is the Grenade Badge of the Royal Welch Fusiliers issued in 1882. This ties up because the great-great grandfather concerned was in the Boer War and we have photographs of him wearing his sealskin busby with this badge in the centre, but I could not make out the Regiment from the photographs. Thank you very much indeed.
