I am sure Cadbury's opened a chocolate factory in Banbury and imported some of the workers from their Birmingham factory.

Can anyone confirm this and the year the factory opened?

There was once a Cadbury factory in Banbury, Oxfordshire, but it is no longer operational. It was taken over by Mondelēz and is now a coffee production site. However, there is now a Barry Callebaut chocolate factory in Banbury. Additionally, there's a Chocolate Academy Center within the Barry Callebaut factory, offering training and support to chocolate manufacturers and artisans."

Thank you, Douglas.  Hopefully someone will know when it opened.

It seems I and AI were both wrong.

The coffee factory was built by General Foods, not Cadbury.

General Foods was taken over by Kraft who bought Cadbury, long after the factory was built.

Unless anyone knows of a different factory in Banbury that was a Cadbury factory

I remember it as the Birds Custard factory, but has now been 're-puposed'!

There's one in Chirk just over the Welsh border - I think it's still Cadbury/Mondelez (maybe not). Not sure what it makes.

That was when General Foods owned it.  I've never heard of Callebaut chocolate but it is a very well known Swiss chocolate company.  Every day is a school day.

I remember when Birds Custard moved from Birmingham - both our neighbours worked there and of course lost their jobs as they didn't want to move. They both went to Cadbury.

I know Chirk, lovely canal walks there, and a castle. We used to do a circular walk from Chirk, going over the Pontcysyllte aqueduct.  It made a nice day out.
