I've heard 2 versions of this old story.

The first that I heard at school was related to Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem on Plam Sunday

The one my wife was brought up with (In Ireland) was related to bearing the pregnant Mary to Bethlehem.

Is the first a protestant version playing down the Mary slant or is it a regional thing or just random?

Which version do you know and was that from a Catholic or Protestant context?

Found references to both on the net but it definately sounds like the missus is in the minority - Should have had a fiver (or something) on it!

Came from a discussion about a program on Poussin's "Adoration of the shepards" where the donkey is there with a cross on his shoulders - C17 century artists! Know nothing!
