Has the Royal Mail quietly given up on the distinction between first and second class postage ? Bearing in mind the decrease in the number of letters and the increase in internet deliveries, I can't help wondering if all letters now get sorted/delivered together. Is it now not worth paying extra for first-class ? Which you never used to be able to rely on arriving the next day, anyway.

I don't know their procedures, but I no longer rely on next-day delivery even with a first-class stamp, no.
I don't think there is much difference.

I worked for a short while for RM (summer job) and we never looked at the stamps. I spent most my time realising how crap at geography I was..
I send a lot of letters out at work, mostly second class. They reach the post office around 4pm and many a time I've had people phone the next day with regards to the content. First class couldn't get there quicker.
Less first class stamps are bought every time there is a price rise, normally the end of March each year.
