Can anyone tell me how to find the tank regiment my father in law was in WW2 in India please?

You can get a copy of your father-in-law's service record - https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records#service-records-of-deceased-service-personnel If he was in a tank regiment he would most likely have been in one of the Royal Armoured Corps regiments.
