My Grandfather was in the Merchant Navy during WW2, is there any way I can find out his service history?

The merchant navy isn't like the navy, its loads of individual companies. Do you know which one he worked for or any of the ships he sailed on, which port he sailed out of, what cargoes he carried in peacetime?

Woof I have no idea, I know that he sailed in and out of loads of ports all over the UK, that he went to Italy a lot.

Thats it, I regret not asking him more when he was alive!
