My apologies Ed if I am out of order in posting in this section, which perhaps is somewhat your private domain and should be limited to your initial postings.

However, I am becoming confused by the classifications in 'User Profiles'

I can understand 'Banned' and 'Suspended' but am a little confused with 'Permanently Suspended' and 'User Inactive'.

Your clarification of the position would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure about Permanently suspended but maybe it differs from Banned in that posts are removed (I think) for banned posters but are allowed to remain on AB for Suspended/Permanently Suspended users. Permanently Suspended also means the suspension will never be lifted whereas as other suspensions can be lifted.

Maybe User Inactive may be used where a poster has deactivated their account. I could also understand if the Ed made accounts inactive if it isn't used for say three years, but I don't know if that happens
My old 'noxlumos' account which I can no longer log into for some reason is citing ' Signed_Up' whatever that means???

Hi factor 30.....I concur with your views and it is the 'User Inactive' which is puzzling me.

I recall a certain member who suddenly became 'User Inactive' and then re-appeared under a different Username and was accepted by everyone; including the Ed who must have know who he was. I think he has now been banned, but it would be snaky if I were to identify him, because I liked the nomadic approach which he had on matters.

I have now come across another member who has been listed as 'User Inactive' and this makes me interested to know if this is an editorial decision or if, indeed, the person concerned has hit the 'Deactivate Account' button.

Nox....I see to what you are making reference:-

banned = cannot log in, posts removed

suspended = cannot log in, post not removed

inactive = user has no logged in for some time and the account has become inactive.

Permanently Suspended = I haven't seen this. Some users are suspended permanently, but this is usually because they've offered valid and useful contributions prior to going off the deep end.

Signed-up: sounds like the account was set up and the member didn't click the activation email - this state is usually reserved for very new users. No idea why the old NOX account would be this status :)

Thanks Ed for your explanations.

However, one member is listed as 'Inactive' and, whilst many folk will be glad that he is, his last posting appears to have been on the 21st September this year and his last activity (perhaps a 'look-in') is listed as the 25th of the month.
