What is the proximity effect.

What is the difference between an XLR connector and XLA

you may have more luck with this question if you put it in the Science forum.

Directional response: "radiation or sensitivity pattern that is concentrated in certain directions." Think of the cone of a microphone moving. The pattern which it moves in is the directional response.

Proximity effect: "The influence of high frequency current flowing in one conductor upon the distribution of current flowing in an adjacent conductor."

XLR connector: "A microphone connector with a locking device to prevent unintentional disconnection."

Not sure what an XLA connector is. Perhaps a microphone connector without a locking device??

I took the definitions (in quotes) from the Illustrated Dictionary of Electronics by Turner & Gibilisco.
