No, there is life after death - why do you think so many people've seen ghosts? As for OOBE's - some people can do it at will, although it often occurs during times of trauma or near-death experiences. Scientists can only create an illusion - be it by drugs or other methods.
Its the brain playing tricks, I have been saying this for years, out of body experiences when close to death is a phase the body goes through on the approach to death not afterwards.

As for people seeing ghosts I don't believe anybody has seen a ghost, I think it is all a trick of the brain, illusion call it that you like!!

And for all those really convincing stories we all hear about, sorry I cant believe them!!
Same reason so many people see UFOs and Nessie I guess!
There is no life after death. If you think that a pulsating bleep after brain death is a life, then you aint living much now are you. If you mean the bits and bobs before being brain dead, then I imagine it is the laws of nature shutting down and turning off the main power switch of all main organs one by one. As for out of body experiences, havent most of these been achieved for centuries, if not millennia by chemical hallucinogenic means in natural or manufactured form?
that may be your opinion octavius, but please have some respect for others who have different opinions, might you be wrong ?
Of course it is my opinion. I was answering the question.
The possibility that I may ever be wrong is absurd, it just cannot be so.

Where is your opinion/answer? Are you adding any bite to the debate, or just nibbling away at everyone elses?
im not nibbling im saying god forbid you may be wrong.................: )
As if.
But if for that answer I am to be subjected to Gods forbidding, then Ill take my chances. How about you proffer an answer for once, rather than acerbic lamentations. Or are you too God-fearing to have an opinion?
oct, personal attack do not become you
Neither do opinions according to you.
I was merely offering you the opportunity to expound your knowledge and opinions to Answerbank for a change, rather than the usual caustic comments which give you the appearance of being an inane bitter spiteful misery.
But if you want to leave me with that opinion of you, then that is fine. Nighty night.
oct, have you ever heard of a sense of humour, might we not all be on your intellectual level.?
fine, thanks you twisted old hag!!!! hehe!!!!!
octavius i like you! i always find it funny when an athiest says they dont believe in life after death and someone says "huh keep you opinions to yourself" but they'll quite happily harp on about theirs! just cause your opinion makes more sense and is more probable religious people seem to take offence just because your opinion differs??? are athiests not allowed to have their opinions and express them?
i also think its great that science can knock back all those stupid idiotic people who harp on about out of body experiences we can now finally say shut up and theres a perfectly plausible explanationan as to how you had one.

Here's a little exercise. Shut your eyes in a very quiet place and imagine yourself ceasing. Not dropping off to sleep but ceasing entirely to exist, never to reawaken, never to know or feel anything anymore. To me that doesn't make sense, and since I have convincing reasons to believe otherwise, so I do.
Right you find it hard to think that you dont exist when the function that is giving you the power to think that is the power to think? and you say that doesnt make sense?

it makes perfect sense

Right, Sherman, I'm glad it makes sense to you, it just doesn't to me. Try gazing into the stars on a cloudless night. There is more to existence than science.

Maybe I am in denial but i would hate to think that I will never see my family who have passed away again, this cant be it surely . I would like to believe that there is an afterlife and I do think ghosts or presences exist definatly, if they exist then surely there is an afterlife?
whiffey makes an extremely valid point and one I prefer to believe, this does not mean that non believers may not be write, everyone is entitled to the own opinion, but i'll take the religious view that heir is life after death, until proved otherwise.
is there life b4 death i want to know ?? lol
