yes, local newspapers are kept in film form at your local reference library and a reference librarian will at some point have indexed the surnames and you should be able to freely access both at the local library.

dotty, iots not a local newspaper, and death was within 3,10 years ago.
national newspapers will surely also have archive copies on microfilm if not on computer - why don't you ask them?

sorry, couldnt think what category to post in, know the name of the person, know the newspaper, rough estimation of the year, ie quite recently.is it possible to view the obituary notices on line? thanks
Why don't you try it? Go to the website of the newspaper whose obituaries you which to search and have a try!
