I don't think You get to see the marriage certificate and all the details unless you go buy it. Name: David W Palmer Mother's Maiden Surname: Cartwright Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1946 Registration district: Leeds Inferred County: Yorkshire Volume Number: 9b Page Number: 823 I'd suggest you order it ? Ditto marriage certificate ? Census won't be...

I don't think You get to see the marriage certificate and all the details unless you go buy it.

Name: David W Palmer
Mother's Maiden Surname: Cartwright
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1946
Registration district: Leeds
Inferred County: Yorkshire
Volume Number: 9b
Page Number: 823

I'd suggest you order it ? Ditto marriage certificate ?

Census won't be available yet for 1946. So no clues there.

Name: David W Palmer
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1968
Registration district: Hemsworth
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding
Spouse: Margaret Crossland
Volume Number: 2b
Page Number: 1634

Maybe someone else knows how to help further ?

thank you Old.Geezer. Im trying to find if hes the half brother of someone Im doing a tree for. He has the same mothers maiden name and same area a birth age. Its a complicated tree. Lots of out of wedlock children ! Dont really want to send for any certs unless I really have to
Old Geezer has a point. Unfortunately the more complicated a tree is then the more you need to be sure of what's what by buying the certificates. However, there's an outside chance that the 1939 Register on FindMyPast might help here. You can get a list of Palmers and Cartwrights in Leeds in 1939, but it will help enormously if you have some idea of ages etc
There were three other David W Palmers born in Yorkshire at this time (1943, 1947 and 1948) any of whom may have married in 1968.

Thanks Rose Maybud

I have found the family on the 1939 records, but its known that the husband "got around a lot " which is why he is father to so many out of wedlock children !
I think I will have to send for the cert after all. Ive had a word with the GRO office and they say that if the name I put on the application form isnt the same as that on the certificate, they dont send it anyway or charge you. So worth a try. Thanks very much for your help
