I,m looking for the parents of Annie Convy/Convey.I found Annie in the 1911 census with parents William P and Alice M Convy,in Dewsbury, which is the right area. There's no record of a marriage that I can find for William and Alice. The only Annie Convy I can find in 1891 is with parents called Thomas and Rose (nee Johnson) but not a trace of them in 1911 census.Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, the record for Thomas and Rose is in the 1901 census, not 1991,typing too quickly!
Question Author
Oops i've done it again.I meant not 1891.I,ve gone brain dead with all the searching.

1901 census.........................
Convie Alice 38 Head Dewsbury, Yorkshire 11 Spinkwell Road Dewsbury
Convie Mary E 9 Daughter Dewsbury, Yorkshire 11 Spinkwell Road Dewsbury
Convie Annie 4 Daughter Dewsbury, Yorkshire 11 Spinkwell Road Dewsbury
Convie Wilfred 2M Son Dewsbury, Yorkshire 11 Spinkwell Road Dewsbury
Although Alice is shown as Head of household she is shown as Married........I'm now looking for William.
I'm struggling here..............I can't find William in 1901 and either William or Alice in 1891 yet according to the 1911 census they would have married circa 1883, and I can't find the marriage either.
Question Author
Thanks Craft,I know what you mean,Ive struggled with this one.I thought that spelling of the name would have come up in my searches,so thanks for finding it.I will go and have another look for William.
Must have been a very sad family, 1911 shows she had 10 children with only 2 living............
Question Author
I didn't see that Craft as I didn,t view the full transcription. My Great Grandmother was the same she lost 8 including twins. Her husband then walked out on her when the youngest surviving child was 11.It's very sad.Still haven't got any further with William as my OH hijacked the computer!
I've looked on the genealogist, ancestry, and find my past and can't find a marriage for Convy, Convey, or Convie between 1880-1885. I can't find William in 1901 or 1891, I've even done a search by his occupation and age (no name) on genealogist and found nothing.
What is Wm's year of birth? Have foudn a marriage of Wm Convey in 1877, so could he have been married previously? Found this on www.freebmd.org.uk :

Marriages Jun 1877 (>99%)
---------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------

Convey William Manchester 8d 295
HOERTY Margaret Manchester 8d 295
JENKINSON Eliza Manchester 8d 295
Larvin Michael Manchester 8d 295

Showing that he married either Margaret or Eliza ....................... could this be him ............. still looking for other info that might help you Polly x
Sadly, I am drawing a blank too .... except that I did think Convey may have been transcribed as CONWAY perhaps - so I looked at William Conway marriages for 1883 and the only one to an Alice is in the last quarter of that year, but at St Giles in London - December quarter and she was Alice Maud Smith........ other than that I have totally drawn a blank. Sorry!!
Question Author
Thanks a lot echokilo,I will have a look at all that you have found.Did't get much time last night to check on Crafts info.Alice is Alice M on 1911 census so that would add up,and the year of marriage too.William( second initial P)was born in 1864 Barnsley.I always seem to get ones with awkward names, the last one I did was Lickes, there was some great mis-spellings of that! Thanks again.
Question Author
Just checked out Crafts info, the family are transcribed as Connie in Ancestry 1901 census!
Question Author
I have found a marriage between Patrick Convey and Alice Firth in 1883 Dewsbury.Perhaps William is using his middle name?
Hi Polly This may be an utter bad steer but..... The name Convey appears around Foxford in Co Mayo, and the Irish Govt have put the 1911 and 1901 census free on line,so worth a small look. For reasons of agricultral and industrial employment Mayo people traditionally went to Leeds and West Yorkshire,so a long shot but worth a look. Regards Quiggers59
Question Author
Thanks quiggers,I will follow that up,though the William I am looking for was born in Barnsley. He's proving difficult.
Question Author
The notion of Alice and Patricks marriage is wrong.Back to the drawing board.
I'll start having another look for a bit............
Bingo...............I've found them in 1891. It's defo the right people as the occupation is correct............
