i am a pc user and i am more than aware of what a hi def slideshow looks like. But i can tweak it to get the optimum.
with the new consoles offering a 480p to 1080p res what will happen in 5 years time when they will be pushing the machine to the max.
for example compare the first tombraider to the last one on the ps1. things have moved graphically in the right direction. it might suffer from a bit of slow down due to thrashing the machine. but then imagine then doubling the res.
i have just seen q4 on the xbox360, and it just doesn't like large areas or lots enemies and sometimes for no obvious reason slows to a crawl.
Not cussing next gen it can do nfs carbon/ tombraider better than my mid weight pc can
just wondering

In the next 5 years nothing will happen in terms of console resolutions as 1080p hasn't really arrived properly yet.i know the 360 and the ps3 both offer it but not that many people have a set capable of 1080p res.

know what you mean hd tv's not in every home but look at comet on a saturday/ sunday people are buying them.
i would imagine that when making the game they have to base it around the 1080 res so it scales down.
this is fine a moment but add in bigger textures, soft shaddows..... and the high res mode will suffer, so they would not have such rich textures and the normal low res would suffer when scaled down.
i feel i am not articulating myself properly. hope you know what i am on about
many people are buying hdtv's but not all of them will offer 1080p resolution.the ps3 says it is the 1st true HD console which of course is now not true with the 360 also offering 1080p but the major own goal scored by sony is that it cannot downscale 1080p.so if a game is made for 1080p it cannot downscale it to 720p or 1080i so will be at normal 480p resolution.
this will be fixed with a software patch but yet another own goal from sony on the ps3.

yeah i heard that had to chuckle. i still cant quite forgive sony for what they did to sega.
but i cant see how either will be able to keep up the 1080p res with the extra A.I etc. As games move on in five years time when hd is a bigger part of everyones life
