I'm all out of inspiration. Doing Chinese tomorrow. I need 2 dishes one with king prawn and one with chicken (mains). But neither can be sweet and sour nor too spicy.

Ideas please!

blackbean sauce?
lemon?
Question Author
Lemon might be a good one, Bednobs.

I can't do black bean cos I haven't got any and I'm not going out again.

I had already planned a menu but changed a dish on request. It's kind of knocked everything out of kilter.
sesame chicken? (YUM!)
chow mein?
ginger and garlic?
Question Author
Sesame chicken sounds yum. But it's too much like the crispy beef I'm doing. That's on the list for next time!

King prawn chowmein and lemon chicken?
Honey and garlic, Sichuan prawns? Prawn balls...either fried or in a broth?
make a red pepper and cherry tomato 'paste' (add garlic and onions before sweating down the peppers and tomatoes - about 20 minutes).

Pan saute fresh or frozen prawns at the last minute until just pink and add (scallops can be an alternative or served with) add to the paste/sauce. Serve on Chinese egg-noodles.
(and the paste/sauce can be pre-made, so the last minute work is minimal).
Not for tomorrow (as you're not going out again), but for next time, think Pancake Rolls. Mrs A did, and the results are stunning! You can buy the wrappers from Ocado (etc), fill them with what you like (in our case vegetables only), shallow fry them, and they are delicious.

The not-going-out-again thing puts the kyebosh on many other ideas, I'm afraid. Again, Ocado/M&S do a nice beansprout these days for only 50p, which are easy to cook and delicious.

And if you've got time (and no going out) do fried rice rather than steamed. Do the rice today so it's got time to cool properly, then fry a spring onion or two, plus a fast-scrambled egg, then the rice with some added soy sauce.

I've not cooked meats for 40 years now, so a bit short of ideas on that front.

Hmmm. Some nice ideas there.

I shall muse on it. Still liking the idea of a lemon dish and a chow mein.
these are great - the Guangdong folk tend to use pigeon rather than chicken and they're even better! https://damndelicious.net/2014/05/30/pf-changs-chicken-lettuce-wraps/
chicken foo yung is lovely
Question Author
Am now drifting towards Dt's tomato and pepper dish (we've a glut of tomatoes).

Allen - glad you said that about rice. So many tales of never eat reheated rice but imho the only way to do fried rice is to cook the day before and dry it.

I've always got pancake wrappers so they are part of the starter. Along with prawn toast and sticky chicken wings.

Duck is drying nicely for crispy duck.

Some lovely ideas here that I had not considered so they're in the bank for next time! Really fancy foo yung!

Thanks guys.
"sounds yum" ??? Can't do, it contains sesame !!! Way to ruin chicken, or anything else.
Pepper, tomato, garlic & onions sounds nice though. What time's our invite ?
Chicken balls and fried rice and I will be round at 630 with a bottle of gin
Have you gone off your diet then Martin? or is it half a chicken ball and a thimble of gin?
Barmaid have you not got a nice Chinese take away? Seems like a lot of hassle to me -just order the mega banquet and chill. ;-)
No I can manage 2 balls and after an hour 2 gins
