Delia Smith christmas cake

I`ve never made a christmas cake before. I`m going to do the Delia Smith one. It calls for brandy. I would prefer (golden) rum. Would that make much difference to the taste? I`ve only ever eaten cake made with brandy. Or I could make the cake with brandy and top up later with rum. Would the mix of two spirits conflict a bit?

Rum, whisky, brandy etc are all interchangeable in a fruit cake, just use what you like/have.

Thanks. I think I`ll make it with the brandy and top up later with the rum then (top up the cake, not me)
