has anyone made rice pudding in their slow cooker/crockpot?
I will have to leave it for at least 8 hours. Is that a bit long??

My slow-cook-book says 2 to 6 hours on Low. If it's 8 hours make sure there's plenty of liquid in at the start - or you'll end up with burnt rice pie!
