Hey guys!

Could I get away with microwaving jacket potatoes before going out this evening, then doing the oven cooked bit when we get in? We normally do them this way (micro then oven) but going to the gym (yippee!) and will get home about 20.45, so leaving the whole of it til then will mean it takes forever and will be eating pretty late.

Or is there another way I could do them quickly, or part now and part later but still getting the oven cooked bit?

Ta!

Well as you only need to microwave them for approx 4 minutes why not do them when you come home.
never tried leaving them but couldn't you put them in the oven on timer, and have them fully oven cooked for when you get in.
I nuke them in the microwave to cook them...........but as the skin needs to be crispy, I finish them off in the oven. The length of the gap between both stages doesn't have any effect.
will be fine :-)

hey craft, ours always seem to take longer then that - doing the 2 potatoes always takes around 20 mins on the potato setting, and by the time we get in my other half will be starving and getting in my way and grouchy and I will be ready to kill him lol!

So the quickest way would be best! The oven bit takes long enough as it is!

Hey ubasses - Timer!? we dont have the luxuries of one of them on our oven! We live in a little flat with a free standing electric oven/hob that must be atleast 30 years old! A Belling compact?! if that means anything!
Cook in Microwave full time then ,wrap in Tinfoil ,when you come home put them in the oven to finish them off,If you could leave your oven on very low before you go out ,the oven will be ready to put in the jackets right away. .Of course going to the gym you should really go to the pub after a few pints of what you fancy ,then on the way home stop for a takeaway curry and a kebab.then when you get home you will not mind waiting for your Jackets .
Hope its all good.

Ahh that does sound very tempting in a mo! Although unfortunately dont think my OH would be too up for that!

Will cook them in a bit then and wrap them up ready for when we get home! Also going to gt the fillings ready, although thats the easy part as Mr Wiggal wants Cottage cheese (heave) and tuna mayo and sweetcorn for me!
Fraid your cooker means nothing to me, sounds like you must be a miracle worker to produce your meals on it though.

And I was off with the age, closer to 40 years old!!

Although that is slightly more up market then ours, we have 4 dials for the hob, 1 for the tiny grill at the top and one for the oven.. no luxuries of a timer for us! :-)
Why not leave them in the oven while you are out?
We always had a cooking timer in the kitchen it was called a clock.
Question Author
Due to the age and type of the oven, I dont really trust leaving it on while we are out, and with not having a timer, I dont want to come bc to 2 shrivelled mangled potatoes and no dinner!
Question Author
ron, and how will the clock or watch help me when I am not going to be in the house!? Being that I wont be there to switch it off when I need to!?
wiggs, I was making the point that like you we never had these modern conveniances like timers & we managed for 58 years.Ron.

Ah right I see! Was not aimed at my dinner issue today, thats cool!

Tbh, I wouldnt be able to use a timer even if I did have one I dont think, far to complicated for the likes of me!
will your bloke be home? If so get him to put jackets in

hey 4get,

No he wont, we are both off to the gym to play squash, otherwise he would be fending for him self!
Really fast baked spuds: cook in microwave and finish off under medium grill (after brushing with oil, if you like) . Soft inside. crispy outside and fast.
So....how were the were the spuds?
