It's fine to freeze. It's safe to heat in the micro-wave. In my experience stew does not keep well fresh, although it's usually nicer on day two. I would stick in the freezer after that.
I'd say a couple of days then freeze, microwaves fine.
Make sure that when you do re-heat-do it till bubbling. 3 days in fridge, and several months in the freezer should be the limit.

brilliant - thats all a massive help ! normally i dont cook as it all goes to waste, but knowing I can freeze saves time and money ! thanks :)
Stews can be refrigerated (at no higher than 5 degrees) for up to 3 days but preferably I prefer to freeze in a suitable plastic bag or container when it will be fine for up to 6 months and probably longer although it's wise not to leave things in a freezer for too long as they can suffer freezer burn and the quality will deteriorate.
