What'll happen if i use self-raising flour instead of plain to make pancakes? I only have self-raising in cupboard and really have a craving! Made yorkie puds other night with it and it didn't rise but pancakes are flat...

Thanks!

hi Jeanette---when are you due on -come dine with me - ?
Go ahead and use the self-rising flour, pancakes should come out light and fluffy. They would come out good.
I always seem to have trouble with yorkies, even when I added a bit of baking powder,so I have given up graciously and buy frozen.
Now mini sweet pancakes with choc hazelnut spread and I dont care if they are flat or skyscrapers, they wont last long.
Plain flour, PLAIN FLOUR for Yorkshire puddings!!
I've always used plain flour for ' Yorkshires ' with two eggs, which definitely makes them rise. Make sure the fat in the tin is really hot ( even smoking ) when you put the batter in.
I'm not sure that the SR would make light pancakes as the batter would be quite runny. If you want lighter pancakes, just whisk the egg white until stiff and fold into the batter. I put a bit of melted butter in the mix, then you don't have to keep putting oil in after every one.
