Can you use a cast iron griddle (old one been past down in family) on a ceramic hob or I was thinking maybe put it on a wok stand to stop scratching, has anyone else used it straight ontop of hob or can anyone suggest another way I could use it thanks

I'm assuming that you're talking about a cast iron frying-pan. If so, yes: just don't scrape it across the stove-top. As with any other pot or pan, lift it to move it.
wear wrist supports when lifting it!
Good point:)
And one for your back hun. Damned heavy.
And an oven mitt. If you use a longish mitt and grab the handle close to the pan you'll have the underside of part of you arm to take up most of the strain of lifting it.
