I have found a recipe for Cherry meringue,. My problem is, where can I buy tinned cherries? Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco and Morrison's in the nearby towns have all said they used to sell them, but they have now been discontinued. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy tinned cherries?

Our local Co-op has a Polish food
section and they do bottled cherries ..
maybe you can use them ...
We had some from Tesco about 3 weeks ago and even today they are available on Tesco's website.

However we have hunted high and low the last two weeks in a row and not been able to find them...
use fresh cherries if it comes to that
Lidl sell them in a jar. They are delicious, but I don't know if they are an adequate substitute for tinned ones as I have never eaten them from a tin.

Thank you, I've just added Asda and the Co-Op to my list of calls, but no luck. The need for the tinned cherry is that the recipe suggests using the syrup with a good dollop of kirsch. I think I'm going to have to go back to Lemon Meringue...AGAIN!
have you tried a cash and carry, they used to do tinned cherries, they might be like the others now but may be worth a try
Have you tried contacting the customer advice section of the makers of your tinned cherries (if you can remember)? They will usually be able to supply you with the name/s of your nearest stockist.

Thank you for that Ed. The trouble is I always bought the Waitrose own and the Tesco own cherries, and in both stores, I was taken to where they used to be kept, and then followed the element of surprise when they were no longer on the shelf. After checking, I was then told by both stores, that they had been discontinued. Like Cheekychops, I remember seeing them on the shelf about 2 months ago. I think I may now be doing chocolate and brandy pots with raspberries. Thank you to everyone for their most helpful suggestions too.
if you need any one to try them for you........
Lucienne you can cook fresh cherries in a little water & sugar & still use them like the tinned ones

Give over fluff! - you beat me to it!

*shoves fluff over & borrows BOO's spoon*

Hey Jack, cherries are for buyng a bag full, and just trying one, then another, and just one more, until they've all gone. Trust me, I've done that. At least in a tin I can't scoff the lot before get a chance to use them. I'll make 2 extra chocolate pots for you and mccfuff! Lxx
Would Cherry Pie Filling do?
That is usually kept on the shelves over the vegetable freezers in my Tesco's.
Lots of nice syrup in that!
masterchef
asda have fairly recently started stocking small frozen punnets of fruit and i'm pretty sure cherries are one of them. they might be a good substitute for tinned once they're defrosted.
masterchefs idea is a good one too, you could dilute the thick juice in the pie filling with kirch.

Now that is a good idea, ethandron. I think I'll have a dummy run with your idea, and see if it works. Thank you very much.
