how do i get the high temp light on fridge freezer to go out

i have a frost free fridge/freezer & 3 days ago the fridge stopped working but the freezer remained fine, i was told to check the freezer as if it gets icey it inhibites the fridge as it is the air circulating, i duly did this defrosted the freezer and now i have put it back on the light is on & im not even sure if it has cured the problem anyway but as i have had this for several years i no longer have the manual so dont know what to do - its a hotpoint 8496p if anyone is familiar - thanks
