In short, pretty well anything you like!
no no no , the proper way to eat it is with only salt added.
Before or after cooking?
Before cooking for the salt. I'd go with heathfield on this....your imagination is the only bar to what you put in/on it. Sugar, cream, golden syrup, dried fruit, fresh fruit (berries of choice)......
The best thing to put in your porridge? A spoon!
Rasins
mashed banana and honey, yum yum
Maple syrup and fresh cream.
And oats and milk (GAB)

Dates are lovely with porridge.
I have been experimenting for a long time to do savoury porridge and tried adding all sorts of things (drew the line at Heston's snail porridge), such as Bovril, chicken stock, bacon, mushrooms (all at different times I hasten to add), as well as salt alone, but have never found anything that really has the "wow , that's nice" factor.

Xanthe Clay had an article on Porridge in last weeks Weekend section of the telegraph, but they were all sweet.

Anybody else had a go at savoury?
