sweet potatoes v spuds

i was considering making a sweet jacket potato instead of using a normal spud. do sweet potatoes and normal potatoes taste similar and will a sweet potato work as a jacket potato?

Taste different and have a different texture once cooked. If cooked for a long time a sweet potatoes goes sort of mushy.

Thats not to say they are not fantastic, they are but they wouldn't go too well with most traditional Baked Potatoes fillings in my opinion.
It'll be fine, just remember that the texture won't be exactly the same as a fluffy floury potato. You can still split it and fork it up. Tastes pretty good with some chili butter!
Lou - after it has baked and you open it up - try putting some brown sugar and butter on it.

Some also like it with white sugar, butter and cinnamon.
Lou there are so many different ways - I can't think of them all right now - but here are a couple more:

Butter & Honey

If you have a jar of ice cream topping that is nuts in syrup - preferably pecans - a little of that as a topping is nice.
Or as an alternative boil both sweet and ordinary tatties and then mash with lots of pepper salt and butter - delish...

They are fantastic chopped into rings and roasted in olive oil...me and husband eat them just like that as a side dish, well seasoned with black pepper.......
